The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, and Lieutenant-General (Retired) Andrew Leslie, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Canada-U.S. Relations), will host a town hall meeting on NAFTA modernization, followed by a round-table consultation with representatives from the dairy sector, on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The town hall meeting is open to the public.
On World Humanitarian Day, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, issued the following statement.
Canada is alarmed by the Venezuelan government’s deepening descent into dictatorship. We condemn the announcement made today by the National Constituent Assembly, stating that it will assume core law-making functions of the democratically elected National Assembly.
More than 55 million people in Yemen and countries across Africa, including Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan, suffer from food insecurity as a result of severe drought and conflict. Canada’s humanitarian response will address the needs of the most vulnerable in order to ensure that those requiring emergency assistance the most are reached, including crisis affected people in some neighbouring countries as a result of the humanitarian crises.
In response to humanitarian crises, including an unprecedented famine, food insecurity and conflict-induced displacements, affecting over 55 million people in Yemen and countries across Africa, including Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan, Canadians generously donated over $21.3 million to registered Canadian charities between March 17 and June 30, 2017.
