Today, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry; Marie Glenn, Chair of the Cement Association of Canada (CAC); and Michael McSweeney, President and CEO of the CAC, issued a joint statement by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cement sector to support a roadmap to net-zero carbon concrete. On May 31, the Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund started accepting applications from Black business owners and entrepreneurs. It seeks to address the specific systemic barriers Black business owners have too often faced when seeking financing. It also demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to addressing these barriers with long-term solutions by co-developing programs to better support Black entrepreneurs on their road to success.

Today, Gudie Hutchings, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, announced over $196,000 in federal funding to bring high-speed Internet to rural residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, with Aldera Communications Inc. investing an additional $81,700. This project will connect 339 underserved households in the Northern Peninsula communities of River of Ponds and Hawke’s Bay to high-speed Internet.
