Today, as part of National Indigenous History Month, the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announced more than $3.7 million in funding over the next three years through the Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk to support 33 conservation projects across Canada.

On June 16, Nova Scotia Power Incorporated was sentenced in the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia and ordered to pay $175,000 after pleading guilty to one charge under the Fisheries Act. The charge relates to an oil spill into Tufts Cove (a part of the Halifax Harbour) that occurred on August 2, 2018. The fine will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is launching a special week-long Indigenous Nature Conservation Film Festival, featuring nine short films on nature conservation initiatives from across Canada beginning today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, through its social media accounts. Indigenous leaders show us the lands, wildlife, and cultures they have protected for millennia and will continue to nurture for the future. Videos highlight the strengthened partnership between Indigenous Peoples and the Government of Canada to formally protect and conserve more lands and oceans across the country.
