The Cree Nation Government (CNG) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) are pleased to announce the signing of a Conservation Agreement pursuant to section 11 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). After several months of close collaboration and constructive discussions, the parties have successfully negotiated this agreement for the conservation of Lake Sturgeon (southern Hudson Bay - James Bay populations), a species of special concern under SARA.

Canada’s commercial Redfish fishery in the Gulf of St. Lawrence has been closed since 1995 to help redfish stocks rebuild to healthy levels. Since that time, Redfish stocks have rebounded significantly, and the Government of Canada is positioned to re-open the Unit 1 Redfish commercial fishery in Atlantic Canada and Quebec in the near future.

Officers with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) enforce the Fisheries Act to conserve and protect the environment. Obstructing them from performing their duties, or failing to provide required information and documentation to them, are serious and potentially costly offences.
