Today, Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, commemorated the national historic significance of Kaplan & Sprachman, Architects, as a national historic event and the Eglinton Theatre as a national historic site. A special ceremony was held in Toronto, Ontario, with members of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and members of the Kaplan, Sprachman and Eglinton families.
Between 1929 and 1965, Toronto architects Harold Solomon Kaplan (1895-1973) and Abraham (Abe) Sprachman (1894-1971) designed hundreds of movie theatres across Canada.

On this Remembrance Day, the Honourable Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Catherine McKenna, today unveiled a commemorative plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada to recognize the national historic significance of the Japanese Canadian Soldiers of the First World War and the Fight to Win the Vote.
Resolutely determined to serve their country despite not being fully recognized as equal citizens, over 200 Japanese Canadian soldiers overcame prejudice and barriers to enlistment and fought for Canada on the Western Front between 1916 and 1918. Tragically, nearly one-fourth of them were killed in action and 92 were wounded.

The Government of Canada is investing more than $38 million for various infrastructure projects at Parks Canada sites in coastal British Columbia.
