In January 2022, Women and Gender Equality Canada launched a call for proposals to bolster the capacity of Indigenous women’s and 2SLGBTQQIA+ organizations to provide gender-based violence (GBV) prevention programming in order to address the root causes of violence. 2SLGBTQI+ communities face discrimination, violence, and barriers, which prevent them from participating in economic, social, and political aspects of life. Supporting 2SLGBTQI+ organizations helps build a safer, more equitable and inclusive Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, joined by the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, Marci Ien, today raised the Pride Flag on Parliamentary Hill in Ottawa, and also announced up to $1.7 million for six projects that will address key issues facing 2SLGBTQI+ communities.

On June 8, 2023, Women and Gender Equality announced funding of up to $1.7 million for six 2SLGBTQI+ projects, which is part of the $12.7 million 2SLGBTQI+ Projects Fund announced in Budget 2021. The Projects Fund supports 2SLGBTQI+ not-for-profit organizations in developing community-informed projects that address systemic barriers faced by 2SLGBTQI+ people.
