At the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in Vimy, France, Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, international military representatives, dignitaries, Canadian and French citizens, and youth gathered to solemnly remember and honour the supreme effort and sacrifices of the Canadian soldiers who went into battle at Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917.
Each year, Veterans' Week is celebrated in Canada from November 5 to 11. The Government of Canada, as well as Veterans' groups, charities, and individuals throughout the country hold hundreds of commemorative ceremonies and events to honour Canada's Veterans, the men and women who still serve in the Canadian Armed Forces, and to pay tribute to those who have fallen in the line of duty.
The Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, will join His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, this evening at the Canadian War Museum for the 16th annual Candlelight Tribute honouring Canada's Veterans.
