Today, we acknowledge the 105th anniversary of the Battle of Amiens – a crucial engagement that opened the door to victory in the final phase of the First World War. It was the start of three months of stunning battlefield achievements that became known as “Canada’s Hundred Days,” where the actions of our soldiers helped define the Canadian Corps as one of the most effective fighting forces on the Western Front.

Yesterday, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Labour and Seniors, and the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport, issued the following statement on the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada ratification vote:
“Today, I join Canadians across the country in marking Food Day Canada which celebrates all the hard-working people across our food systems and recognizes the variety of the high-quality, world-class food that they produce. Food Day Canada is also an opportunity to reflect on the important role that food plays in our health, our environment and our cultures.
Scientists from the Public Health Agency of Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory (NML), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, and Imperial College London are leading a global effort to better understand the genetics of people living with HIV, who are of African ancestries, as they are a key population that is disproportionately affected by HIV.

Canada reiterates that President Mohamed Bazoum, his family and the detained members of the democratically elected government must be released immediately. We also support ECOWAS’s call for the reinstatement of President Bazoum as head of state within the timeframe prescribed by the regional organization.
