Everyone deserves a place to call home. However, for many across the country, home ownership and renting are out of reach due to the housing crisis Canada is facing. We need to build more homes, faster, to get Canadians into homes that meet their needs, at prices they can afford. That’s why in Budget 2024 and Solving the Housing Crisis: Canada’s Housing Plan, the federal government announced the most ambitious housing plan in Canadian history: a plan to build 4 million more homes.

Manitoba has confirmed that the human remains found in the Prairie Green Landfill have been identified as those of Morgan Harris of Long Plain First Nation. This is both heartbreaking and horrific. This loss of precious life is tragic. While nothing can repair the harm that has been done, it is my sincere hope that Morgan Harris’ family and community will find some of the closure they so deserve as they bring her home and honour her.

Today, Chief Wilfred King of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek and the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs and Minister responsible for CanNor, announced that the First Nation and Canada have reached a financial settlement to address the First Nation’s Treaty Reserve Claim against Canada. This settlement is an important step to promote reconciliation and renew the Nation-to-Nation relationship.
