Media representatives are advised that Environment and Climate Change Canada will hold a media availability with regard to Canada’s Rapid Extreme Weather Event Attribution system and the 37 hottest heat waves that impacted 17 regions across the country during summer 2024. The results will show how much more likely human-caused climate change made each heat wave and how many degrees above normal temperatures rose. Upcoming new capabilities for the system will also be introduced.
The Honourable Ya’ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, and Quebec’s Minister Responsible for Social Services, Mr. Lionel Carmant, will hold a news conference on substance use and addictions.

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan: a plan that will pause population growth in the short term to achieve well-managed, sustainable growth in the long term. For the first time ever, the levels plan includes controlled targets for temporary residents, specifically international students and foreign workers, as well as for permanent residents.

Immigration is essential for our country’s economy and accounts for almost 100% of Canada’s labour force growth. In response to the global pandemic and labour shortages, we brought in temporary measures to attract some of the world’s best and brightest to study and work in Canada, which supported the urgent needs of businesses.
The conference will focus on three objectives: reaffirming the need for a diplomatic solution to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, mobilizing the international community to address the urgent needs for protection and emergency relief for the Lebanese people and exploring strategies to enhance support for Lebanon’s institutions, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, which play a crucial role in ensuring the country’s internal stability.

Today, Harold Calla, Executive Chair of the First Nations Financial Management Board, and the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services, announced the expansion of New Fiscal Relationship Grant eligibility to Tribal Councils and First Nations-led service delivery entities, such as health authorities.
