The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today initiated a preliminary injury inquiry (PI-2026-004) into a complaint by Great Pacific Enterprises Limited Partnership (Genpak), of Mississauga, Ontario, that it has suffered injury as a result of the dumping and subsidizing of paperboard cups and containers from China. The Tribunal’s inquiry is conducted pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) as a result of the initiation of dumping and subsidizing investigations by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

As of today, there are 582 active wildfires nationally including 31 that are out of control, with full response. In total this season, there have been 4,793 fires and 4.1 million hectares burned. Last year we saw fewer fires at this time – 4,584 fires by mid-August - but a more significant number of hectares burned – 7.7 million.

The Government of Canada is delivering $932 million to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the City of Toronto and the Government of Ontario in fiscal year 2026-2027 to invest in modern and reliable infrastructure that builds stronger, more affordable communities for Canadians. As part of this investment, AMO will receive $746 million and the City of Toronto will receive $183 million to make strategic infrastructure investments across 19 project categories. Ontario's Ministry of Transportation will receive $2.2 million to help local roads boards support safe and efficient travel in unincorporated communities.
