Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today awarded Mr. Mike Hawkins a 2013 Small Craft Harbours Prix d'Excellence. Mr. Hawkins received the national award under the category of "National Individual Commitment" for his work as the Harbour Supervisor at the Harbour Authority of Cape Broyle.

As part of a $106 million investment in small craft harbours across the country, the Government of Canada is providing $28.8 million to repair and maintain fishing harbours in Newfoundland and Labrador. The $106 million in funding includes $66 million in regular program funding for the Small Craft Harbours Program in 2014-2015 and $40 million over two years from Economic Action Plan 2014.

The Honourable Peter MacKay, Regional Minister for Nova Scotia, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced the acceptance of Canadian Coast Guard vessel CCGS Captain Goddard M.S.M. into the Coast Guard fleet. CCGS Captain Goddard M.S.M.is the last of nine Mid-Shore Patrol Vessels (MSPVs) built and delivered by Irving Shipbuilding Inc. to the Canadian Coast Guard.
