Canadian Coast Guard at HMCS Discovery in Vancouver

Strengthened Inshore Rescue Since 2013, the Canadian Coast Guard has operated an Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) facility on a seasonal basis at HMCS Discovery, a Royal Canadian Naval Reserve facility located on the shore of Vancouver Harbour. Established in the 1970s, CCG's IRB program provides search and rescue coverage in key areas – including major metropolitan harbours – during peak times in the recreational boating season.

July 22, 2015 - Vancouver, British Columbia The Honourable John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, and the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced the Government's intent to pursue an amendment to the Pacific Fishery Regulations, 1993, to create separate commercial fishing licence categories for tuna, lingcod and dogfish. These species, along with Pacific cod, sole and flounder, skate, sturgeon and smelt, are currently grouped together as "Schedule II species" under Schedule II, Part II of the Pacific Fishery Regulations.

July 17, 2015 - Ottawa, Ontario Fisheries and Oceans Canada announced today that the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Offshore Arctic surf clam will increase from 38,756 tonnes to 52,655 tonnes on the Banquereau Bank and Grand Bank creating more jobs and economic activity in Atlantic Canada. The new TAC begins with the 2016 fishery.

This is the second contract awarded by the Government of Canada to this shipyard in July.
