An estimated 200 families with children in Campbell River are eligible to receive money under the Harper Government's boosted Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), but are at risk of not receiving the benefit unless they apply. The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, today asked for help from the media and the public to encourage families to apply for the benefit.
As of this month, Health Canada's Plain Language Labelling Regulations begin to come into force – starting with new requirements for manufacturers of prescription drugs to provide mock-ups of labels and packages for Health Canada review; and to provide evidence that proposed brand names will not be confused with previously approved brand names.

The Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification) and Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre–North, on behalf of the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, today announced that over 1 million post-secondary students have received Canada Student Grants (CSGs) since their introduction in 2009. The event took place at the University of Calgary, where more than 14,000 students have benefitted from CSGs since the inception of the program.

The Governments of Canada and British Columbia today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that paves the way towards retooling an existing federal-provincial job training deal which will better-align training with jobs. The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, and the Honourable Michelle Stilwell, Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation (British Columbia), today signed an MOU to direct officials to finalize the deal. This is the second job training deal to be signed between the federal government and provinces.

The weather buoy and on-line weather and wave forecasting tool technology will provide the marine transportation community, commercial fishers, recreational boaters, meteorologists, researchers and scientists with online access to real-time weather and directional wave information in the Bay of Fundy.
