The Canada Council for the Arts has awarded the 2014 York Wilson Prize to the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, Ontario. The $24,000 award will enable the Gallery to acquire a new work, entitled Tautology, by Aboriginal artist and 2013 Sobey Art Award winner Duane Linklater. The acquisition builds on the Gallery's tradition of supporting practices by regional and Aboriginal artists. The MacLaren Art Centre will unveil Tautology on September 25, 2014 at the Gallery's annual MacLaren Legacy Dinner, a featured event of Carnegie Days, which coincides with its Culture Days activities (September 26 to 28, 2014).
The Youth Justice Fund was established in the 1990s as part of the Youth Justice Renewal Initiative, and provides grants and contributions funding for projects across Canada. The Youth Justice Fund has a budget of approximately $4.5 million each year.
