May 20, 2015 - St-John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (ACOA), on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced an over $40 million investment by the Government of Canada in the Canadian Coast Guard. A new Atlantic region headquarters will be built at the existing Coast Guard base in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The governments of Canada and British Columbia will provide over $582,000 in Canada Job Grant funding to Seaspan Shipyards to help 260 workers gain shipbuilding skills. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors) and Member of Parliament for Richmond, on behalf of the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development; along with the Honourable Shirley Bond, British Columbia Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour; and Andrew Saxton, Member of Parliament for North Vancouver.

The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan today announced that they have signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Canada and are now in final discussions to retool an existing federal-provincial job training deal. This deal will further align training to labour market opportunities in Saskatchewan. The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, and the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan Minister Responsible for Immigration, Jobs, Skills and Training, today signed an MOU to direct officials to finalize the deal.
