Corner Brook celebrates grand opening of new water treatment plant

The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announced the completion of the Corner Brook Water Treatment Plant today. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Newfoundland Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Charles Pender, Mayor of Corner Brook, attended the grand opening of the plant, which is bringing better water treatment services to the City of Corner Brook and the towns of Massey Drive and Mount Moriah.

An estimated 8,400 families with children in Montréal are eligible to receive money under the proposed enhanced Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), but are at risk of not receiving the benefit unless they apply. Today, the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development, announced at the Norman Berman Children's Library in Montréal that the application deadline to receive the UCCB has been extended until May 15 so that more families can receive their UCCB cheque in July 2015.
