The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Doug Horner, Minister of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, today signed a new Canada-Alberta Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) that will support long-term economic growth and competitiveness in Alberta.
The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced the Government of Canada's intention to make major infrastructure improvements in national historic sites across Nova Scotia, and to the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The announcement is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
This project involves the stabilization of selected historic assets within the Fort McNab property on McNab's Island. Assets will be selected for stabilization based on providing safe unguided public access. With the long-term stabilization of Fort McNab National Historic Site, Parks Canada is ensuring the protection of this significant resource for visitors to McNab's Island.
This project includes the construction of wharf facilities; installation of water, wastewater, electrical distribution services and design of key visitor experience elements in support of the development of Georges Island as an operational National Historic Site, open to the public.
Management plans guide the direction for protected heritage areas, and outline Parks Canada's commitment to Canadians about how national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas will be managed. Management plans are the primary accountability documents for the areas under Parks Canada's care. They are required by legislation, guided by public consultation, approved by the Minister responsible for Parks Canada, and tabled in Parliament.

Nathalie Normandeau, Deputy Premier of Quebec and Ministre des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire, today joined Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière−Chutes-Chaudière, in announcing that Saint-Urbain Parish in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Charlevoix will receive $292,510 in joint government financial assistance under the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) to add a new sector to its regional industrial park.

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $3,802,500 in total non-repayable funding to two leading Bas-Saint-Laurent organizations. The Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC) will thus receive $900,000 funding and the Université du Québec à Rimouski's Institut des sciences de la mer (ISMER) $2,902,500 for the acquisition of specialized equipment. Together, these two projects will necessitate an overall investment of $4,225,000.

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $47,500 in non-repayable funding to L'Échappée Bleue, a solidarity cooperative for sustainable tourism. Awarded through the Community Economic Diversification Initiative ¿ Vitality (CEDI-V), this funding will enable the organization to operate a youth hostel and tourist cabins.
