Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, concluded Canada's State visit to Hungary with a moving ceremony commemorating Canada's role in welcoming 40 000 Hungarian refugees following the 1956 Revolution. This morning, the Governor General and His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond were joined by His Worship Dr. Gabor Demszky, Lord Mayor of Budapest, and over 200 guests, including Hungarian dignitaries, the Canadian community in Hungary and the diplomatic core, for the unveiling of the Canadian memorial plaque in Városliget City Park, located in the 14th district.
Health Canada is warning consumers not to use Firm Dose and Granite Rooster, two products promoted to enhance male sexual performance, as these products may pose serious health risks. Firm Dose was found to contain an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient similar to the prescription drug sildenafil, while the product Granite Rooster was found to contain an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient similar to the prescription drug tadalafil. These drugs should only be used under the supervision of a health care professional. Patients with pre-existing medical conditions, including those with heart problems, those taking heart medications, or those at risk for strokes, may be at an increased risk of serious health effects associated with the use of these products.

The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today welcomed the decision of the German Government to contribute personnel to the Canadian-led Staff and Language Training Centre (SLTC-A), in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Two residents of Trout River have been convicted of illegal net fishing in inland waters, possession of illegally caught salmon and trout, and possession of a net near inland waters. In provincial court at Corner Brook in July 2008, Hilliard Snook was fined $1,200 and Martha Snook fined $750. Both individuals are prohibited for five years from being within ten metres of the inland waters or in the vicinity of a cabin located at Chimney Cove Brook. One salmon, 32 trout and fishing gear were forfeited. They were apprehended by fishery officers from the DFO Rocky Harbour detachment and provincial inland enforcement officers during a joint surveillance operation investigating salmon poaching in the Chimney Cove Brook area.
