On October 2, 2008, at 9:45 a.m. in TorontoHer Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will preside over the opening ceremony of a school that will bear her name. Michaëlle Jean Public School is a new public school in York Region where French immersion is offered. It is located at 320 Shirley Drive, Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the harvesting of bi-valve molluscs, including oysters, clams, mussels, scallops and quahogs, for recreational or commercial purposes is prohibited until further notice in all areas of Southwest New Brunswick. The area affected is all waters within 1.6 kilometres of the shoreline, from Nova Scotia to the US border. Coordinates of the area are outlined below.
