68th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain Ceremony at Canada Aviation Museum

Media are invited to attend the official ceremony to mark the 68th anniversary of the Battle of Britain at the Canada Aviation Museum. The Battle of Britain ceremony will feature a parade by Canadian Forces (CF) members, Second World War veterans and Air Cadets, and the laying of wreaths. The Central Band of the Canadian Forces will provide music. There will be fly-pasts by vintage Second World War aircraft (Spitfires, Hurricanes, Avro Lancaster) and CF aircraft (CF-18 Hornets, CH-146 Griffon helicopters, CC-144 Challenger), weather and aircraft availability permitting.

These past few months have been busy for central bankers, to say the least, and the past few days are certainly no exception. While developments on Wall Street have garnered much attention, the cost of living has also been an issue for us all, whether we're buying gas at the pumps, booking an airline ticket, or just picking up a loaf of bread at the grocery store. Of course, the cost of living is always front and centre for us at the Bank of Canada, where our primary monetary policy objective is to ensure that inflation remains low, stable, and predictable over the medium term. Some periods, however, are clearly more challenging than others in terms of meeting this objective. To set effective policies in both tranquil and turbulent times, we must understand what drives inflation and be able to anticipate its future movements.

Installation of a Norval Morrisseau Painting in the Rideau Hall Ballroom

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG) will install a new artwork in the Rideau Hall Ballroom on September 18, 2008. Created by world-renowned Canadian Aboriginal artist Norval Morrisseau, the painting, entitled Androgyny, will replace Charlottetown Revisited, a work created by the Jean Paul Lemieux, which has been on loan from the Confederation Centre of the Arts since 2006.
