NORTH VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Member of Parliament for North Vancouver Andrew Saxton, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, highlighted today the Government of Canada's investment in MacKay Creek. The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and Minister for the Arctic Council, today announced that the proposed Dumont Nickel Mine Project (the Project), located in Quebec, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects when the mitigation measures described in the Comprehensive Study Report are taken into account. The Project has been referred back to the responsible authorities, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada, for appropriate action under section 37 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (former Act).
