Denis Lebel, Member of Parliament for Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Société de gestion environnementale (SGE) to help six young people in the Maria-Chapdelaine regional municipal county improve their employability.
The Silver Threads Senior Citizen Club, which has served the Souris community for 34 years, received upgrades to make the facility more user-friendly thanks to funding from the federal and provincial governments. This funding provided materials and labour to build wheelchair-accessible washrooms, install windows and doors, conduct general repairs, and replace furniture and appliances and dishes. This funding was announced today by Minister Peter MacKay, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, along with the Honourable Allan Campbell, Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development.
OTTAWA - The Government of Canada is partnering with the B.C. Climate Action Secretariat and the B.C. Safety Council to give Canadians tips on conserving fuel. Fuel-efficient driving information will now be incorporated into the council's driver safety courses, helping participants reduce vehicle fuel consumption by up to 20 percent.
Residents and visitors to Saint-Laurent will have an opportunity to learn more about Métis traditions and heritage, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

On December 21, 2007 the CRTC awarded a five-year contract to Bell Canada to operate the National DNCL. The National DNCL will be a nationwide registry that will allow you to reduce the number of unsolicited telemarketing calls you receive. Currently, each telemarketer is required to maintain its own "do not call list", which you must register on separately to reduce or avoid calls. With the National DNCL, you will only have to register your Canadian telephone number on one list.

The Competition Bureau announced today that three Canadians who operated a deceptive telemarketing scheme based in Toronto, which purported to offer credit cards to Americans for a fee but never delivered the cards, have been found guilty. Two of the three have been sentenced to a combined 42 years in prison by the U.S. Federal Court in the Southern District of Illinois. This is the first time a Competition Bureau investigation has resulted in extradition.
