The terrible news of the death of Corporal James (Jim) Hayward Arnal, an infanteer serving with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group, is another cruel blow to all of us, wherever we may be.
Yesterday, a Canadian soldier was killed just before midnight Kandahar time. The soldier was killed by an Improvised Explosive Device while on a foot patrol in Panjwayi District.
The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, issued the following statement today on the death of a Canadian soldier:

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced $50,000 in repayable funding to the firm Chocolats Lulu to market its products in the U.S. This project, which is expected to generate investments of $100,000, will result in the creation of seven jobs and the consolidation of the firm's existing 25 jobs in the region.
OTTAWA - British Columbia is now closer to identifying new mineral and energy deposits in areas of mountain pine beetle infestations as a result of new data collected during a recent helicopter survey west of Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George. Funding for this survey was announced by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, on September 24, 2007, as part of Canada's Mountain Pine Beetle Program.
