Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Chutes-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Jean‑Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced that CVT Corp will receive $200,000 in repayable funding to commercialize its Varigen system on U.S. and European markets. This project, which will require a total investment of $960,000, will create about 30 jobs within a year.

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today unveiled the second component of his Strategic Plan for 2008-2011. With a budget of $86 million over three years, this latest component is aimed at supporting Quebec's small and medium-sized manufacturers in their efforts to raise productivity. This funding should generate $430 million in investments in Quebec's economy.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, Steven Blaney, Member of Parliament for Lévis-Bellechasse, today announced $241,000 in non-repayable funding to Ag-Bio Centre, an incubator whose mission is to foster the pre-startup and startup of new enterprises in the biotechnology sector.
Major-General Dennis Tabbernor's appointment to Chief of Reserves and Cadets (C Res & Cdts) was confirmed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Rick Hillier at a Change of Appointment ceremony held at National Defence Headquarters at 11:00 a.m today. MGen Tabbernor replaces MGen Herb Petras who served as C Res & Cdts from December 2004 until his retirement in January 2008, after forty-five (45) years of service.
