The state of Canada's children and youth is not good. Canada ranks 22nd out of 29 OECD countries for preventable childhood injuries, 27th in childhood obesity. Overall Canada ranks only 12th out of 21 wealthy countries in the 2007 United Nations rankings of child well-being.

More than 100 artists and arts organizations in 11 Alberta communities will share a total of $2 million through the Alberta Creative Development Initiative (ACDI), a new program designed to support the development of the arts in Alberta.

On April 12, 2008 the Government of Canada took enforcement action against the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel Farley Mowat for alleged violations of the Marine Mammal Regulations, which is an offence under the Fisheries Act.
