The Honourable David Emerson, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics, today met with provincial and territorial representatives to discuss Canada's current trade agenda and the status of the World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations.
The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, on behalf of the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, together with the Honourable Marian C. Horne, Minister of Justice, today announced that the Government of Canada will provide Yukon with $800,000 as part of a new Police Officers Recruitment Fund. This Fund supports the Government of Canada's national effort to recruit 2,500 police officers and provides flexibility to the provinces and territories in enhancing policing initiatives across the country.
The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today tabled two annual reports highlighting Canada's activities, priorities and representation in international financial institutions: Canada at the IMF and World Bank - A Report on Operations Under the Bretton Woods and Related Agreements Act and Canada at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - A Report on Operations Under the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Agreement Act.

The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, wrapped up his visit to Aqua Sur 2008, the largest international aquaculture exhibition in the southern hemisphere, held from March 24-29 in Puerto Montt, Chile attracting over 15,000 participants. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen collaboration and information sharing among like-minded aquaculture producing countries, and identify innovative solutions to common challenges.
