Today, Lisa Janes, Regional Director General for the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) Northern Ontario Region, officially opened the new and improved Cornwall port of entry (POE).
The Government of Canada invested $14 million into this larger facility. Its opening marks the completion of the CBSA’s move to the base of the new North Channel bridge location, which first opened in January 2014.
Cornwall’s new facility, equipped with five primary inspection lanes, can accommodate high volumes of traffic and enables the CBSA to better facilitate the free flow of legitimate travel and trade across the border while continuing to maintain a high level of border integrity and security.
Quick Facts
- Over 1.1 million vehicles and 1.6 million travellers were processed at the Cornwall POE over the last year.
- The CBSA’s analysis of traffic volumes at the new location since January 2014 suggests that the ability to open two additional primary inspection lanes is having a positive effect on traffic flow at the Cornwall POE.
- Travellers can plan their entry to Canada through the Cornwall POE by checking border wait times (BWTs) at www.cbsa.gc.ca/waittimes. BWTs for the Cornwall POE are also available on Twitter: @CBSA_CWL; #CBSA_CWL.

“I would like to personally thank the officers of Cornwall POE for their patience and dedication during the last four years, as we waited for the new facility to open. I am delighted that this new, modern facility is now fully operational.”
