Neepawa, Swan River, Hamiota, Minitonas and Westbourne to benefit from New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund
November 17, 2014 – Neepawa, Manitoba – Infrastructure Canada
Today, the governments of Canada and Manitoba announced that five communities in Manitoba's Parkland Region will benefit from the New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund.
The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It will provide $1 billion to municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs.
The five projects in the Parkland Region that will benefit from this funding are:
- Installation of a new trunk sewer in the Town of Neepawa
- Upgrade to the Hayes Street Pump Station in the Town of Swan River
- Sewer line renewal on 7th Street in the Town of Hamiota
- Lagoon expansion in the Town of Minitonas
- Expansion of the Yellowhead regional water system in the Rural Municipality of Westbourne
These projects will help Parkland Region communities improve their water and wastewater infrastructure. When completed, the systems will better meet the needs of their residents today and into the future.
The five projects being announced today are among a number of projects announced recently across the province that will benefit from funding from the governments of Canada and Manitoba under the Small Communities Fund. Including the previously announced projects in the Interlake Region, East St. Paul, the southwest region, the north central and south central region, and southeast region, the governments of Canada and Manitoba have jointly invested close to $14 million in funding each into 23 projects under this fund to date.
