Backgrounder: Canada and Ontario invest over $14.2 million in five community and Indigenous education broadband infrastructure projects across Northern Ontario
Backgrounder
Joint federal and provincial funding through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan will support five community and education projects across Northern Ontario.
The Government of Canada is investing over $11.3 million in these projects through the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Ontario is providing over $2.8 million.

The project will provide secure internet connectivity to students to attend school remotely and provide access to online mental health support in eight First Nations in Ontario. Work includes the installation of satellite dishes in six First Nations communities and connecting fibre cables in two First Nations communities. Once complete, the project will provide secure access to school websites and cyber-security protections. |

Flood Mitigation for Berglund Road |
Township of Machin |
Funding will support modifications to Berglund Road in the Township of Machin, including upgrades to the existing culverts in addition to the installation of new culverts, and increases to the heigh of the road subgrade and gravel. Once complete, the project will improve ditching and allow for improved flood mitigation. |

This project will repair, upgrade and expand the landfill facility in the Township of Ignace. Work will expand the landfill attendant transfer facility for employees, and install security cameras, commercial recycling bins, and a vehicle weight scale system and gates. |
