Nestled along the banks of the Fraser River lies a recreational facility that has been inspiring athletes from the Lower Mainland and across the world to go for gold.
Originally built as a long track speed skating venue for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, the Richmond Olympic Oval is known for its world-class indoor amenities, but lacked outdoor facilities that could meet the growing demand for recreational space in Richmond and Greater Vancouver.
With a $750,000 investment from PacifiCan, the Richmond Olympic Oval converted a nearby under-utilized grass lot into "The Fields," a vibrant community space that has become an outdoor hub for sport and wellness.
The Fields now hosts a variety of outdoor activities like basketball, soccer, and fitness training on 4,200 square meters of vibrant blue turf and three courts. Other amenities including, seating and lighting that extend the use of the facility.
As more tournaments, camps and events are being added to the programming, The Fields will become an even busier community hub and anchor for sport tourism.
Since opening in August 2023, The Fields at the Richmond Olympic Oval has experienced substantial growth, including:
- welcoming over 3,000 weekly visitors
- attracting over 300 athletes from more than 20 countries to Richmond, British Columbia for an international sporting event, the IF3 Masters World Fitness Championships
- hosting the New Zealand All Blacks and Black Ferns’ training camps
