The Centre for Aerospace Research at the University of Victoria is paving the way for industry-leading innovation as Western Canada’s only graduate-level Aerospace Engineering program. Established with PacifiCan support in 2012, the Centre for Aerospace Research has since built a framework for the successful commercialization of aerospace technology right here in B.C. With a focus on drone and satellite technology, the Centre is emerging as a developer of cutting-edge technology and a core part of British Columbia’s aerospace technology sector.
In 2018, PacifiCan provided a further investment of $980,000, allowing the Centre to offer their products to the wider market, forge partnerships across the aerospace sector, and establish British Columbia as a hub for drone and satellite development in Canada.
This investment has:
- trained 80 highly qualified personnel, including youth trainees, research engineers and graduate students
- brought 13 new products and technologies to market
- developed 10 prototypes ready for demonstration
- attracted over $1.2 million in third-party investment
To continue supporting organizations like the University of Victoria, we will soon have staff living in and providing service from eight locations across the province, including Victoria and Campbell River, serving Vancouver Island and the Coast of B.C.
