How did you arrive at PacifiCan?

After spending 15+ years as an administrative professional in the private sector in Calgary, Alberta, I moved to Vancouver in 2020. In Calgary, I worked as an administrative assistant in a financial institution for many years, and also at an engineering/environmental firm. I now work with PacifiCan as Administrative Assistant.

What interested you about PacifiCan?

Working for the federal government has always interested me. When I learned about PacifiCan’s role in promoting growth and diversification in B.C’s economy, and how PacifiCan helps businesses, entrepreneurs, and innovators, it seemed like a great place to be. I was especially proud to join PacifiCan during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Agency helped so many people and small businesses get through tough times.

What do you do in a typical day?

My typical day includes assisting my director with his calendar management, juggling meetings and connecting with internal participants and external clients to arrange schedules. I also assist my whole team with travel arrangements, expenses, and all manner of administrative paperwork. I help with the onboarding of new employees, and assisting those moving on to other roles as well. I am co-chair of our Workplace Occupational Health and Safety committee and was co-chair of our Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Committee this year as well.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

The most rewarding thing about my work are the amazing people I get to work with every day. I can honestly say that Pacifican has the most genuine, hard working, dedicated and welcoming people. Helping my team and my leaders in their day-to-day lives gives me great satisfaction because I know the work they are doing is so important. They are also a super fun and positive team, and even when there are challenges, we find a way to enjoy our work.

What makes your region of B.C. special?

I live in Vancouver, and the Lower Mainland is truly the most beautiful part of Canada, in my opinion. To live and work near the ocean, the mountains and the forests is a gift.

Any advice for people who may want to join PacifiCan?
PacifiCan is continuing to grow, so if you want to join a welcoming team and gain experience helping grow B.C.’s economy, there are many opportunities. I know many people who have grown their careers here, some of them starting as co-op students all the way up to executives.
