2017 Grand-Pré National Historic Site Announcement - Grand total investment*: $925K
Backgrounder
Grande Pré National Historic Site
Grand-Pré National Historic Site commemorates the Grand-Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762. In designating Grand-Pré as a national historic site in 1961, the Government of Canada also recognized the strong attachment that remains to this day among Acadians throughout the world to this area; the heart of their ancestral homeland. Grand-Pré is a symbol of the ties that unite them. On June 30, 2012, the Landscape of Grand Pré, which includes the historic site, was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for its outstanding universal value.

Project name: Operations Compound Renewal
Announced in 2015: $473K
Estimated Additional Financing: $681K
Estimated total cost: $1.2M
Project description: The current facilities date to the 1950s. In June 2014, Hurricane Arthur destroyed the storage facility at the site. The existing building does not provide adequate working space for staff and is a hindrance to the visitor experience and the commemorative integrity of the site. Management Plan calls for the relocation of the compound to the former parking area of the site. The new compound facility will allow adequate working spaces and facilities for employees.
