Conference to Develop a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease

Statement

Lyme disease is a serious emerging infectious disease in many parts of our country. On December 16, 2014, An Act respecting a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease received Royal Assent. As Minister, I am committed to convening a conference with my provincial and territorial colleagues in health and with representatives of the medical community and patients’ groups to develop a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease.

Today, I am pleased to share details on the upcoming conference. The conference will be held in May 2016, during Lyme disease awareness month. The national conference will provide a valuable opportunity to build on our best practices and discuss how we can better work together to address the challenges of this disease and mitigate the health risks to Canadians. I look forward to further engaging Canadians, partners and stakeholders on this important issue.

The Agency has established a Conference Planning Committee of key Lyme disease stakeholders including the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation (CanLyme) and the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada (AMMI) to plan the conference.
