Message from the Minister of Health - World Cancer Day
Statement
February 4, 2020
It is estimated that 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime - a number that is far too high.
On World Cancer Day, we remember those we have lost to cancer, those who are still battling, and those who have fought through and survived cancer. Investments in research, early detection, and treatment have resulted in more people surviving cancer than ever before, but we know there is always more to do. Everyone can take action to prevent cancer: be more active, quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption and eat healthy foods.
Today, on World Cancer Day, I encourage all Canadians to join me in working toward a world where no one needs to fear cancer.
The Honourable Patty Hajdu
Minister of Health
