Archived Public Health Scholarship and Capacity Building Initiative
The Public Health Scholarship and Capacity Building Initiative (PHSCBI), provides grants and contributions to support the development of the public health workforce. The Initiative is co-led by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Population and Public Health.
The Initiative addresses the gaps and deficiencies in public health capacity by implementing strategies to increase the training and education of public health professionals, including those who educate public health professionals.
The Initiative's goal is to improve readiness and capacity in people, systems and tools. Its objectives are to:
- increase the number of skilled public health professionals where there are shortfalls in workforces;
- enhance relationships between university programs in public health and public health organizations; and,
- develop public health training products and tools.
The Initiative is comprised of the following programs:
- Public Health Workforce Development Products and Tools Contribution Program (delivered by PHAC) – periodic calls for proposals
- Applied Public Health Chairs Program (delivered by CIHR) – in progress
Each Program has its own criteria and procedures for applying. For additional information on our funding programs please contact: PH_Tools-Outils_SP@phac-aspc.gc.ca
