Healthy Living: Supporting Action for Diabetes Prevention

Promoting obesity and diabetes prevention for children, youth and families living in Beauce, Quebec

News Release: Harper Government Committed to Diabetes Prevention in Quebec

Approximately 2.5 million Canadians have been diagnosed with diabetes. Many more are unaware they have the disease and the number of people diagnosed with diabetes is expected to continue to rise. In Canada, one in three children are overweight or obese and a growing population of younger Canadians are acquiring type 2 diabetes at earlier ages.

Through the Canadian Diabetes Strategy, the Government of Canada is taking a proactive, long-term approach to prevention and management of diabetes. The Canadian Diabetes Strategy invests $6 million a year in ongoing funding to develop and evaluate community-based programs that help Canadians, and their health professionals, promote healthy living practices and prevent chronic diseases.
