Respiratory Virus Report, Week 14 - ending April 9, 2022

In this Respiratory Virus Report, the number of detections of coronavirus reflects only seasonal human coronaviruses, not the novel pandemic coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19. For information on COVID-19, see the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Outbreak update

Overall Summary

Detections of seasonal respiratory viruses have increased since February 2022. Activity of all respiratory viruses is within or below expected levels for this time of year.

  • Respiratory syncytial virus (414 detections; 4.3% positive) is the most common seasonal respiratory virus detected in Canada, but activity is stable and below expected levels.
  • A total of 363 influenza detections were reported (362 influenza A, 1 influenza B). Activity of influenza A has increased in recent weeks, and is approaching expected levels for this time of year.
  • Detections of other respiratory viruses are low.
  • The number of tests performed for all viruses were within or above expected levels.
  • 32/34 sentinel laboratories reported surveillance data.

Delays in the reporting of data may cause data to change retrospectively.
