Near-shore fishery research vessel
Explore the project to build the first-ever diesel-electric hybrid vessel for Canadian Coast Guard research (CCG).
Overview
The specialized near-shore fishery research vessel (NSFRV), is CCG first-ever diesel-electric hybrid vessel. It will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology in fisheries, oceanographic and hydrographic sciences.
The new vessel will undertake critical research to collect the data and information needed to help guide decision-making for sustainable fisheries and healthy ecosystems. The vessel will be used in the CCG’s Central and Arctic Region. The NSFRV will emit fewer emissions. This reduction reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and environmental footprint.
