Collecting demographic information
Use these questions when collecting demographic information in public opinion research surveys. The wording should be followed exactly to facilitate cross-comparison and non-response analysis as these questions come primarily from Statistics Canada 2021 Census of Population data. However, the preamble and the order of the questions can be modified.

Participants must be informed of the general subject and purpose of the research and be reassured that their answers will remain anonymous and confidential. The interviewer notes can be adapted depending on the needs of the study and all suggested demographic questions are optional.
