Help with filing online webform N10, Excise Act application for refund/drawback
Before you file
Use the webforms to file an N10 application for refund/drawback. The webforms will let you:
- apply online for a refund
- validate data in real time and to correct errors reported by an error message before
- calculate totals
- print or save a PDF version of your confirmation page
- securely send an N10 application for refund/drawback over the Internet
Have your paperwork and other documents ready.
For security reasons, our servers end a N10 webforms session after 18 minutes of inactivity. If your session ends, you will have to reauthenticate yourself and re-enter your data.
How to file
Fill out the application for refund/drawback
Period covered
Start date (YYYY–MM–DD): Enter the first day of the period covered by this application for refund/drawback.

Claimed amounts
Enter the Entry number from, the Entry number to, the Quantity of alcohol by volume and the Claimed amount for the following commodities:
- Beer not more than 1.2% of alcohol by volume
- Beer more than 1.2%, but not more than 2.5% of alcohol by volume
- Beer more than 2.5%, but not more than 11.9% of alcohol by volume

Refund options
Choose the following option that describes how you want your refund issued or applied:
- I want to receive the refund by cheque or direct deposit: Choose this option if you want us to send you a refund cheque or to direct deposit your refund directly into your bank account.
Direct deposit is the fastest way to get your money. It is also reliable, secure and convenient. Go to www.cra.gc.ca/directdeposit and enrol today.
- Transfer amount: Choose this option if you want to transfer the refund or a part of the refund to another filing period or Canada Revenue Agency account. If choosing this option, enter the following information:
- Amount – the dollar amount to be transferred
- Account number – 15-digit account number where the amount is to be transferred to
- Period ending (YYYY–MM–DD) – the filing period the amount is to be transferred to

Summary
You will see a summary of your completed application for refund/drawback. Check all of your data and make any changes before sending your application for refund/drawback. If you find an error, click "Previous" to make corrections.
Certification statement: You must tick the box certifying that the information you provided is accurate and complete before you can click “Submit”, otherwise the application for refund/drawback will not be sent.
Previous: Returns you to the previous screen.
Submit: Automatically sends the application for refund/drawback to the Canada Revenue Agency. You will then see a confirmation page.
Confirmation
The confirmation page gives details of your refund information, along with the filing date and confirmation number of the application for refund/drawback.
Keep the confirmation number for your records. Do not send us a paper copy of the documents you filed online.
Print: Prints the confirmation page.
View in PDF: You can save and print a copy of this application for refund/drawback in PDF format.
File another refund: Returns you to the first page so you can file another refund for the same account.
Correct errors
If you make an error while filling out your N10 application for refund/drawback, you will see an explanatory error message above the field that contains the error.
Correct all errors before going to the next page in the process. You will not be allowed to send your application for refund until you correct all errors.

After you file
Confirmation number
You will receive a confirmation number after you have corrected all errors and sending your application for refund/drawback for processing. This confirmation number means that the Canada Revenue Agency received your refund application.
You can save or print a copy of the confirmation page and the completed N10 application for refund/drawback for your records. To print a copy of the confirmation page, click “Print.” To save a copy of the completed N10 application for refund/drawback, click "View in PDF".
Do not mail us a paper copy of the refund application(s) you filed online.
After we receive your submission
We may contact you to verify your supporting documentation. This does not mean you are being audited. It is simply part of our process for all paper and electronic applications for refund/drawback.
Email notifications
Most correspondence is only available online in My Business Account by default, except when a business has changed its delivery method to receive paper mail. Business owners registered in My Business Account can add an email address to receive notifications when their Canada Revenue Agency mail is available to view in their secure online account, and when other important changes are made to their account. To register, select “Profile” then “Manage notification preferences” and follow the steps.
Troubleshooting N10 online applications for refund/drawback
Why can't you change your browser setting while you are in a secure session?
Do not modify your browser setting while in a secure N10 webforms session because it may cause your browser to freeze or the session to end.
The secure webpages for the N10 application for refund/drawback do not display properly. Why?
Several factors can affect how these pages will display on your system. Try the following:
- Use the default browser settings.
- Maximize your browser window.
- Close the Favorites window.
- Use the browser's Reload or Refresh button.
- Make sure you have enough RAM for your browser's requirements.
You were away from your computer for 30 minutes. Can you still complete your application for refund?
