Frequently Asked Questions – View and pay account balance for payroll deductions

1. What does Current Year (CY) account mean?

Current Year (CY) account refers to the current Calendar year. Payments for all pay periods occurring between January 1 and December 31 are included.

2. Why don't I see the payments I made?

Electronic payments are applied to your account in approximately 48 hours. Payments mailed or made at financial institutions can take even longer to process.

If you believe information is missing or that your payment was applied incorrectly, you can contact the Business Enquiries line at 1 800 959 5525, or send a written request to your Tax services offices and tax centres. If you report electronically, use the online form “Respond to notices” in the Payroll section of My Business Account (MyBA).

3. What do I do if there is a payment missing or I believe there is an error?

If you believe that a payment has not been applied to your account or was applied incorrectly, you can contact the Business Enquiries line at 1-800-959-5525.

4. What is the interest rate and what are the penalties?

Interest is charged on the total balance outstanding as well as on payments that should have been remitted. The Canada Revenue Agency charges arrears interest at the prescribed rate, compounded daily, see Prescribed interest rates for more information.

Penalties can be assessed on late remittances, missing remittances, even improperly made remittances.

5. What should I do if I want to transfer a payment?

Contact the Business Enquiries line at 1-800-959-5525. You need to provide the amount, the date the payment was made, and where you want the money transferred to.

If you like, you can also use the online form “Transfer a misallocated credit” to request the transfer.

6. What if I overpaid and want a refund?

Depending on the circumstances, it might be more advantageous for you to apply this payment to the next pay period and remit the difference if you need to be. Please advise the Business Enquiries agent if such is the case.

If you want to request electronically, use the online form “Request a refund” in the Payroll section of MyBA.

7. Why can't I print a copy of a remittance voucher from my PC?

Remittance vouchers must conform to the standards set out by the Canadian Payments Association. Size, paper quality, and special ink used for financial documents and coding cannot be produced on most home PC printers.

If you want more remittance vouchers, contact your Tax services offices and tax centres or call 1 800-959-5525.
