Internet file transfer (XML) (Transmit a return)

Before you file

You can use Internet file transfer to file original and amended information returns. All you need is a Web browser to connect to the Internet and software that will create, print, and save your electronic information return.

You can file multiple returns within a single submission (maximum 610 KB).

How to file using Internet file transfer (XML)

Complete the following steps:

After you file

Submission number

The Submission number is your confirmation that the CRA has received your information return.

Amending your return

If there are any problems with your return before it is processed, we will send an explanation of any errors so you can correct them and resend your return.

You may also need to amend your return after it is processed. For example, after you file your return, you may notice that you made an error when preparing the slips. You will have to file amended slips and an amended return to correct the information.

Survey

We are interested in your comments. We invite you to complete the survey on the Confirmation of Receipt page.

After we have processed your return

We may contact you to verify your supporting documentation. This does not mean you are being audited. It is simply part of the verification process we apply to all paper and electronic information returns.
