Return status

General information

This page lets you see general information about your tax returns for the current calendar year and the previous six calendar years.

Tax year-end

The tax year-end is shown in year-month-day format. The year-end relates to the tax year for the return received, assessed, or reassessed. If applicable, hours and minutes will be shown in HH:MM format. If no other time applies, the time will be considered to be 23:59.

Status of the return

Describes the status of the return:

• Initial assessment received
  Means that we have received the first return, but it has not been assessed.
• Assessed
  Means that the return has been processed by our computer system for the first time, and a notice of assessment has been issued (mailed or sent electronically).
• Reassessment received
  Means that an adjustment request has been received, but has not yet been processed. The adjustment request may have come from you or from within the Canada Revenue Agency.
• Reassessed
  Means that the return has been changed, and a notice of reassessment has been issued (mailed or sent electronically).

Status date

This is the date (shown in year-month-day format) for the processing of your return:

• Initial assessment received
  For paper-filed returns, including barcoded returns, this is the postmark date stamped by Canada Post on the envelope containing the return or the date stamped by the Canada Revenue Agency if the return was filed at a tax services office.
  For Internet-filed returns, this is the date of the successful transmission.
• Assessed
  This is the date of your notice of assessment.
• Reassessment received
  For paper-filed adjustment requests, including barcoded returns, this is the post-mark date stamped by Canada Post on the envelope containing the adjustment request or the date stamped by the Canada Revenue Agency if the adjustment request was filed at a tax services office.
  For Internet-filed returns, this is the date of the successful transmission of an amended return.
• Reassessed
  This is the date of your notice of reassessment.
