Job Summary
The Tactical Internet Collection Officer is responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on threat-related activities using online open source intelligence (OSINT) tradecraft.
Major Responsibilities:
- Adhering to methodologies established by the responsible Service Program Owner, assess and interpret online information by employing appropriate investigative means to gather intelligence.
- Monitor the activities of specific subjects of investigation, identify investigative leads, and support the identification and development of new targets and sources.
- Be cognizant of active investigations, relevant local threat environments, online trends, existing and emerging social media platforms and patterns of internet usage by persons of interest.
- Consult with relevant operational units to gather and analyze their intelligence requirements; provide advice and explain results achieved, continuously assess requirements, and write operational reports.
- Ensure tasking requests are compliant with the CSIS mandate and CSIS Conduct of Operations policies, including operational use of the Internet and targeting procedures.
- Working with the responsible Service Program Owner, maintain the safety and integrity of CSIS tactical online collection and identify capability gaps.
Education
- Undergraduate degree and four (4) years of experience*, or
- College diploma and six (6) years of experience*, or
- High school diploma and eight (8) years of experience*.
The Undergraduate degree/College Diploma must be obtained from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside of Canada you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.
Any higher level of education (i.e.: Masters, Doctorate) could be recognized as experience.
Experience
- Experience conducting research, analysis, and report writing using online sources**
- Knowledge of social media platforms and smartphones.
**For this criterion, research and analysis experience is defined as experience in researching information and employing critical thinking and investigative thought via open sources. Experience in analysing the information collected in order to draw inferences, generate leads, and make recommendations.

An asset qualification is a qualification which can enhance the ability to perform the work based on current and future business requirements, but which is not strictly required. Assets can help determine right fit in certain circumstances.
- Reading/comprehension ability in a foreign language
- Knowledge of OSINT methodologies and sources
- Previous experience with or the aptitude to conduct online investigations
- Experience in proposing, developing, or implementing innovative solutions or methodologies to improve investigative processes and outcomes.
- Ability to effectively navigate the Internet
