The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 22, 2024. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an annual meeting that brings together the 198 Parties to the UNFCCC. More information about COP29 can be found on the Azerbaijan Presidency's official website.
Canada's delegation
The Government of Canada is dedicated to a united approach to fighting climate change that involves everyone. To meet Canada's climate goals for 2030 and 2050 while also supporting a strong economy, it's crucial that all Canadians, from different sectors, get involved. Canada also recognizes the importance of including the people and communities on the frontlines of climate change to accelerate action and make it more effective. Canada's delegation at COP29 will ensure that diverse perspectives are reflected, and will include Indigenous representatives, civil society organizations, youth, Canadian businesses, labour organizations, parliamentarians, as well as representatives from provincial and territorial governments.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault will lead Canada's delegation to COP29, supported by Canada's Ambassador for Climate Change, Catherine Stewart. Canada's Chief Negotiator for Climate Change, Jeanne-Marie Huddleston, will lead Canada's participation in the negotiations.
