Nature Champions Network
The Nature Champions Network was launched at the Ministerial on Nature hosted by Canada on August 23, 2023, in Squamish, British Columbia.
The Nature Champions Network advocates for the rapid implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), supports continued global ambition on biodiversity and nature and promotes ambitious action toward halting and reversing biodiversity loss both at home and abroad.
The Nature Champions Network will convene regularly on the margins of multilateral forums to share progress and lessons learned in implementing the KMGBF, identify gaps, and promote continued momentum to achieve its objectives.
The network includes both parties and non-parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Nature Champions includes developing and developed country co-leads who will advance specific KMGBF-related thematic areas with all interested parties through either informal initiatives or regional and international coalitions. The co-lead Nature Champions take responsibility for fostering ambitious advancement of their thematic area globally and leading regular check-ins on progress within their thematic area.
Confirmed Nature Champions to date include Australia, Canada, Chad, China, Colombia, the European Commission, France, Germany, Ireland Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Niue, Norway, Palau, Peru, the Philippines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
