What aspiring and current zero-emission auto-technicians and educators are saying about their ZEV careers
“If you have a passion for cars and you want to learn more about EVs in general, pursue it. I never thought I would get into EV related work, but it’s been a fantastic opportunity. It is daunting coming to a university for the first time, and EVs are very scary to people when dealing with high voltage. Once you respect the electricity danger, you will be okay. If you are wondering if you should do it, then that is enough to just dive in”
“It is an awesome time to get into the industry, especially since it’s in infancy in Canada. Career growth is great, and you get to enter roles that are gratifying. People that like this job are the ones that enjoy learning things and solving problems. The only constant is change and big changes are always happening. Change is a good thing and it’s the most enjoyable part of the job”
“When the course is over, I ask the class what the best part was and the students say, “all of it.” I go at a fast pace, and the people that go on the course have been in the trade for a long time, so they are very visual. They do a lot in the shop, and I limit the whiteboard. They like to take cars apart and work hands on with training aids. We teach how to handle batteries which is a highlight for students”
