Government of Canada partners prepare for FIFA World Cup 2026™ with SSC
SSC provides the digital systems, networks and connectivity that support GC operations during the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
As Canada gets ready to co-host the FIFA World Cup 2026™, Government of Canada departments are working together to ensure a safe and well-coordinated event. The tournament will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026. Vancouver and Toronto will host 13 matches.
Shared Services Canada (SSC) is enabling departments to operate reliably, securely and at scale through the digital systems and infrastructure they depend on. It’s what we do!
Working together across government
Hosting an event of this size requires coordination across many departments. Canadian Heritage is the federal lead department for the tournament. We are working closely with them, along with the following key partners:
- Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
- Public Safety Canada (PS)
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
Behind the scenes, this work is complex and requires close coordination. We are collaborating with partners to ensure systems remain secure, resilient and ready to support operations—with teams in place to respond quickly if issues arise.
Preparing for higher travel volumes
The tournament is expected to bring a significant increase in international travel to Canada. We are supporting CBSA and IRCC to ensure systems are ready to manage higher volumes of electronic travel authorization and visa applications.
Connecting RCMP operations
Ensuring public safety is essential for the success of the event. We are working with the RCMP to provide secure and resilient connectivity at FIFA sites in Vancouver and Toronto, so they can maintain reliable communications on the ground during the tournament.
Alex McArdle, manager of the SSC team that supports the RCMP, highlighted the importance of this task:
“With an event of this magnitude, security and vigilance are always key, and we were very proud to be able to contribute our technical expertise with the RCMP for such an exciting sporting event as the FIFA World Cup 2026.”
